Phaedrus Systems got a bit of a surprise when an engineer at NXP (formerly Philips Semiconductors) called us and said we have a pile of 8051 emulators and Keil PK51 compilers to donate to a good home.   Dr Colin Price at University of Worcester was one   of the chosen  recipients  See the link for where the other 7sets went.

Dr Colin Price, Snr Lecturer and Warren Wright accept the donation from Chris Hills of Phaedrus Systems

The Worcester Donation

Phaedrus Systems in association with NXP (Formerly Philips Semiconductors) and Keil, an ARM company donated equipment worth £15,000 in July 2007 to the University of Worcester. This was part of a £120,000 donation to eight UK Universities starting in January 2007. For Worcester University Dr Colin Price and Warren Wright received the set of Keil PK51 8051 compilers, upgraded to the latest specification by Keil, a high-end 8051 In Circuit Emulator and a collection of Phaedrus Systems 8051 support resources.

This is not the first time Phaedrus Systems Technical Director Chris Hills has been to Worcester, he was there two years ago equipping a microcontroller lab with 8051 development kits.  In fact he has helped donate modern industrial development tools to over a dozen UK Universities in the last few years.

Phaedrus Systems believes very strongly in supporting higher and further education in the UK.  As Chris Hills often says: “They are educating and training our future.”

This is not the end of the donations Phaedrus Systems looking for another five UK universities to receive complete labs of a rather nice 32-bit MCU system on behalf of a silicon vendor.  So if you are a university looking to modernise your Micro-controller courses contact Chris Hills Phaedrus Systems
