Testing is the determination of one or more characteristics of an embedded system or its software according to a defined procedure. With embedded systems and theirsoftware testing is often defined as Verification and Validation (V&V).
Tests are run according to a test plan; results are documented in a test report. Tests are needed to check that features based on customer or project requirements, conform to those requirements.
Standards, such as IEC61508, reflect the state of technology. To be able to claim conformity of a product or process with the state of art, checking is fundamental.
RiskCAT generates check lists for the essential parts of the test plan that will demonstrate compliance with the standards. During test, the auditor adds the test result for each item in the test plan, showing the relationship of the audited Work Product to the requirement. The result might be"satisfied", "substantially met","hardly fulfilled" or "not satisfied". The tester may also add comments to any requirement.

To compare the test results directly to the requirements defined in the requirements specification, QualiCAT imports the characteristics to be examined (the defined requirements of the standards) from RiskCAT. The check lists this provides can also be annotated to expand the bare test results.
QualiCATcompares the test result achieved for each characteristic with the target value defined and calculates how well it meets the quality target for
• the sections of the standard
• the standard in total.
The goal of measurement mostly depends on the quality level (SIL) needed. Features/ specifications or themes which do not achieve the quality target can be specifically selected in QualiCAT.
Advantage of the tool
QualiCATprovides internal assessment, prior to a review by thecustomer or by an independentthird party.
